Equipment

Your list of essential towing equipment will include the tow bar with safety cables, a tow
hitch/receiver, a baseplate, and a taillight wiring kit. Safety and security are your top concerns
when towing, so keep in mind that many chassis manufacturers recommend a supplemental
braking system for the towed vehicle and most states today require braking systems. Other
recommended security, convenience and handling features include the following:

• The KarGard™ or KarGard™ II —to protect your towed vehicle from road debris
• A tow bar cover
• The TruCenter™ steering control
• Locks for your baseplate and tow bar
• A coiled electrical cable and corresponding receptacle
• Drop/rise receiver (when applicable)

Towing Vehicles

Most vehicles on the road today can be towed “four wheels down.” Those with manual
transmissions are the easiest to tow because they require little or no modification before
towing. Many four-wheel-drive vehicles are towable as well. It is important to know your
vehicle’s requirements before towing, so if you’re unsure, check your manual or local car
dealer. Additional information and aftermarket products such as driveshaft disconnects and
lube pumps are available to make your vehicle towable.

Towing Checklist

1. Read and follow all instructions.
2. Verify the baseplate attachment tabs are level or no more

than 4” lower than the receiver hitch. Adjust with a drop/rise
receiver as necessary.

3. Insure the tow bar, hitch, safety cables and all components

are of adequate capacity to handle the towed vehicle.

4. Cross the safety cables underneath the tow bar and hook them

securely between the towing and towed vehicles.

5. Make sure the tow bar is properly secured to the baseplate

and motorhome.

6. Insure all lights on the towed vehicle are working properly.
7. Install any additional equipment and follow all manufacturer’s

towing procedures (i.e. pulling fuses, transfer case in neutral,
lube pump, supplemental brake, etc.).

8. Unlock the towed vehicle’s steering wheel and disengage the

parking brake.

9. Insure all safety items are understood and followed.
