To remove the shield from this drive line insert a screwdriver in the slot of the cone (as shown in FIG-
URE 9 ) and push the retaining ring downward and forward out of groove toward large opening of cone.
Steel Shield
To assemble the shield slide the retaining ring over the yoke hub. Slip the Bearing into the raceway of
the yoke. With the Shield held vertically in a vice, or similar support, place the driveline half into the
shield, lining up the bearing and the bearing cone. Insert Screwdrivers through slots in cone, and pry
retaining ring into groove in cone. From open end of cone, push the retaining ring into groove using 2
screwdrivers.
Be sure that the retaining ring is fully seated in groove.
