DON’T FORGET:
CREATIVE WHITE BALANCE
For creative effect you can manually select the ‘wrong’ white balance
to add a fun and interesting colour cast to your image.
The everyday light sources we encounter
emit a colour cast to their light. For example,
fluorescent lights turn the scene green and
household lightbulbs turn everything orange.
Our brains are very clever at removing this
colour cast to make the light look as neutral
as possible. Digital cameras are equally clever;
in the Auto white balance (AWB) mode the
camera recognises the prevailing lighting
conditions and corrects things accordingly.
Sometimes, though, it’s nice to take a little
more control and explore your camera’s
abilities. The NX series has nine settings for
white balance, including full auto, and you can
see the effect each has by scrolling through
on the rear display.
To ensure accurate colour, you need to set the right
white balance for the lighting conditions... or use auto

If you want to quickly
change the ISO setting,
repeatedly press the ‘iFn’ on
the lens and scroll through
to the ISO option, using the
focus ring to make changes.
If you shoot in the Raw image quality setting, you can change the
white balance on your computer to a new one, or correct a mistake.
