High voltages and large currents are present at
the High Voltage Capacitor. It is very dangerous
to work near this part when the oven is on.
NEVER make any voltage measurements at the
High Voltage circuits, including the magnetron
filament.
Even when the oven is not cooking, the High
Voltage Capacitor has High Voltages present
because of the Soft Start circuit.
High Voltage Capacitor Test
16.3
Disconnect and isolate the oven from the
16.3.1
electricity supply.
Allow the oven to cool down.
16.3.2
Remove the oven casing.
16.3.3
Ensure that the High Voltage Capacitor is
16.3.4
discharged before commencing work.
Remove all connections from the High Voltage
16.3.5
Capacitor.
Using a D.M.M., check for continuity between
16.3.6
the terminals. Results should be as follows:
Between Terminals, pass if approx. 10 MΩ
1
Between Terminals and case, pass if open circuit.
2
Using a Megger, test the insulation resistance
16.3.7
between the Terminals and case, pass if reading is over
100 MΩ
High Voltage Magnetron Test
16.4
Disconnect and isolate the oven from the
16.4.1
electricity supply.
Allow the oven to cool down.
16.4.2
Remove the oven casing.
16.4.3
Ensure that the High Voltage Capacitor is
16.4.4
discharged before commencing work.
Remove all connections from the High Voltage
16.4.5
Magnetron.
Using a Megger check for continuity. Results
16.4.6
should be as follows:
Filament terminals, pass if 1 Ω or less.
1
Between each filament terminal and the metal
2
outer case should read open.
