Storage Controllers The HP ProLiant ML310 G5 supports Serial ATA (SATA) and Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) hard
drives. Models described as SAS models include an 8 port HBA that supports both SATA and
SAS hard drives in non-RAID, RAID 0, or RAID 1 configurations. Models described as SATA/SAS
support SATA hard drives standard and require the installation of an HBA or controller to support
SAS.

NOTE: Use of the embedded SATA RAID feature with a Linux operating system requires
installation of a driver from a floppy drive. The supported floppy drive can be a USB drive key,
USB floppy drive, half-height internal floppy drive, or virtual floppy via Integrated Lights-Out 2 (iLO
2).
NOTE: Any Smart Array Controller or SAS HBA requires the purchase of the HP SAS Cable for
the ML310 G5.
