Application
– A dental professional should examine the patient’s

medical history, establish the indication and determine
the duration of the treatment. It is advisable for the
dental professional to monitor the whitening results.
VivaStyle 10% or VivaStyle 16% is used by the patient at
home as instructed by the dental professional.

– The first application of any tooth whitening cycle should

be performed by dentists or under their supervision,
provided the same level of safety is guaranteed.
Subsequently, the gel must be placed at the disposal of
the patient to complete the bleaching cycle at home.

– VivaStyle should be used before new tooth-coloured

restorations are placed, since restorative materials
cannot be whitened. The treatment with VivaStyle
should be completed two weeks prior to the placement
of tooth-coloured restoration. Existing restorations may
not match the appearance of the tooth structure after
the whitening process and therefore may have to be
replaced.

Step-by-step instructions

Pretreatment
Before the VivaStyle tooth whitening gel is used, the dental
professional should carefully examine the patient‘s medical
history and clean the patient’s teeth professionally.

Tray fabrication
A properly fabricated tray will enhance the effectiveness of
the whitening process. Well defined trays will improve
patient comfort and reduce the chance of irritating the
mucous membrane.
1. Take an impression and fabricate the stone model.
2. Heat the tray material on a vacuum former until it sags

1 to 2 cm. Adapt it to the model and place it under
vacuum for 30 seconds.

3. After cooling, remove the tray from the model and

remove excess material.

4. Carefully trim the tray about 0.5–1 mm short of the

gingival margins, using either fine scissors or a blade.

5. Place the tray back on the stone model to assess the fit.

Final shaping and defining of the periphery may be
accomplished with a coarse acrylic polisher.

Instructing the patient
Careful instruction of the patient is fundamental to the safe
and effective application of VivaStyle tooth whitening gel at
home.
1. Review each individual step of the application

procedure in detail with your patient, using the enclosed
information on VivaStyle.

2. Make sure that the tray fits accurately.
3. Using a VivaStyle gel syringe, show the patient how to

fill the tray correctly. Important: Do not overfill the trays
and only apply gel on the surfaces where it is needed.
The calibration markings on the syringe should be used
as a guide when extruding the material.

4. Show the patient how to insert the tray into the mouth.

Explain the proper procedure for removing any excess
tooth whitening gel.

5. Determine how long the patient should wear the tray.

One hour a day is usually sufficient. Depending on the
individual requirements of the patient, a longer wear
time may be prescribed. The overall application time
should not exceed four to six weeks.

6. Explain the proper removal and cleaning procedures for

the tray. The tray should be stored in the accompanying
case.

Notes
– The patient should be provided with the correct number

of syringes needed for the treatment.

– Patients should be informed about the following points

in particular:
– They should avoid the consumption of citrus fruit and

fruit juices during the treatment, as they can promote
sensitivity.

– They should try to avoid, or at least minimize, the

consumption of coffee, tea, red wine and colas as
well as smoking during the treatment to prevent the
risk of staining the teeth.

– Overfilling the tray with tooth whitening gel does not

result in faster or better results. Instead, it may
promote sensitivity.

– Excess gel should be carefully removed to prevent

irriation of the gums.

– Patients should call their dentist if they have any

questions about the treatment or if unpleasant
sensitivity occurs.
