1.2 Firewall and virus scanner
Included with the MicroLink 56k Fun LAN is Norman Internet Control soft-
ware. Norman Internet Control is a firewall and antivirus program that checks
your computer for destructive software. This kind of software is also referred
to as malware (short for “malicious software”). The most common types of
malware are viruses, worms and Trojan horses. For the sake of simplicity,
“virus” is frequently used as a collective name.
Norman Internet Control has the capability to both detect and clean known
and unknown viruses on hard drives, floppy disks, in e-mail attachments etc.
Norman Internet Control checks files when they are opened and automati-
cally removes any viruses present. If Norman Internet Control cannot suc-
cessfully clean the file, a warning message appears and you are given
instructions on how to proceed.
