'Firewall': Here you have your choice of three settings. Select the one
that best suits your needs.
ብ In an editor, open the '/etc/ppp/pppoe.conf' file. On the 'Servicename'
line, make the following addition to the dial string:
“Servicename 'atdt
ቦ In an editor, open the '/etc/ppp/pppoe-server-options' file. Add the fol-
lowing entries to the end of the file:
“default-asyncmap
nopcomp
noaccomp
noccp”
ቧ The command 'adsl-start' starts the dial-up connection to the Internet,
and 'adsl-stop' stops the connection.
Dial-up on Demand: The set options for dial-up on demand and idle time do
not function reliably in all distributions. Please test these settings prior to
use.

Installing the PPPoE
driver

ቢ Open a console as 'root'.
ባ Run the commands 'apt-get update', 'apt-get install pppoe' and 'apt-get
install pppoeconf' in that order. This installs the required driver.
Setting up the
PPPoE driver

ቤ Run the 'pppoeconf' command.
ብ Enter the necessary data: For help, refer to the information provided by
your Internet provider and the help included in the 'pppoeconf' program.
ቦ In an editor, open the '/etc/ppp/peers/dsl-provider' file. Add the option “-
S 'atdt
line.
ቧ Add the following entries to the end of the file:
“default-asyncmap
nopcomp
