2. Insert a piece of wire into the retention hole of the primary cam chain

tensioner this will keep the assembly together. Then remove the two

bolts securing it to the cam plate.

3. Install crank/camshaft locking tool (HD47941) to lockup the

crankshaft and camshaft for bolt removal. Heat may be needed to
soften thread locker. Do not use extreme force as this may result in
damage to the chain drive and or other components.

4. Remove crank bolt, washer and cam bolt, washer. Keep separate these

bolts and washers are not interchangeable.

5. Use a small pry bar to work the crank and cam sprockets loose.

Cam Support Plate Removal

1. First loosen & remove the four-oil pump mount bolts use a diagonal

pattern to loosen.

2. Loosen and remove the 6 cam support plate bolts using a diagonal

pattern to remove plate from engine case.

3. Use a small pry bar at the dowels to work the cam support plate loose.

Inspect chain tensioner shoes if chain drive cams are used

1. Inspect primary and secondary chain tensioners. If contact area is

damaged or is less than .060” thick replace tensioner shoes.

Inspect oil pump

1. Refer to service manual.

Delkron Billet Cam Support Plate Installation

1. Wash and inspect new cam plate. Check cam and crank bores for size

and fitment. Delkron recommends a running fit of .002”-.003” for both
crank and cam.

2. Check crankshaft for burrs use emery cloth or scotch bright if

necessary.

3. If using chain drive cams it will be necessary to transfer chain

tensioners from the stock plate to the Delkron plate.

4. If a gear drive cam is used you must install the block off plate kit

(D2141-BK) in place of the hydraulic tensioners.

5. Install cams into cam plate Refer to cam manufacturers installation

instructions or service manual.

6. If oil pump was removed slide oil pump onto the crankshaft while

fitting O-ring on scavenge port stub. Press firmly to ensure stub is
seated in bore. Always use new O-rings.

7. Verify timing marks on front and rear cams are aligned.
8. Install new O-rings on the oil feed and crankcase post holes.

9. Slide cam support plate onto the locating dowels a rubber mallet may

be used to fully seat the cam plate on the dowels.

10. Install ¼-20 X 1” cam support plate screws and torque to 90-120 in-

lbs. See service manual for sequence.

11. Install oil pump screws finger tight. Rotate crankshaft to let oil pump

find it’s natural center. Tighten screws 1 & 2 then 3 & 4 as you rotate

crankshaft. The numbers 1,2,3,4 are cast into the plate for each
corresponding hole.
