Disassembly
1. If reusing stock pushrods the top rocker cover, breather assembly and
rocker support plate must be removed. If replacing with aftermarket
adjustable pushrods the pushrod covers can be collapsed and stock
pushrods cut with bolt cutters.
2. Remove cam cover socket head screws “Notice” cam cover screws are
¼-20 X 1 ¼” keep these separate from the ¼-20 x 1” cam support
plate screws as they are not interchangeable. Remove cam cover and
discard old gasket.
!!NOTICE!!
At this point we recommended checking crankshaft run-out with a dial indicator.
Crankshaft run-out must NOT exceed .0025”. If run-out exceeds .0025” you must
correct this problem before proceeding. Crankshafts with excessive run out will
damage the cam plate, oil pump, cam & crank gears if a gear drive is used.
Crankshaft run out is extremely critical when using a gear drive. Delkron
recommends being under the max run out tolerance for proper installation and the
quietest possible running gear mesh. Excessive crankshaft run out will also void
manufacturers warranty.
Cam Chain and Cam sprocket Removal
1. If reusing cam chain mark one of the link plates to identify “outside”
for reinstallation keeping rotation the same may prolong chain life.
