8. Reviewing Safety
1. Learning the Parts of Your New Airgun.
Learning the names of the parts of your new
airgun will help you to understand your owner's
manual. Use this manual to increase your
enjoyment of this airgun.
2. Operating the Safety
A. To Put the Airgun "ON SAFE:"
•Locate the safety directly behind the trigger.
•Push the safety from the left side all the way
in. (Fig. 2). The safety is not on unless it is
pushed all the way in and the red ring
around the safety is not showing.
Like all mechanical devices, an airgun safety can fail. Even when the safety is "ON SAFE", you should continue to handle
the airgun safely. NEVER point the airgun at any person. NEVER point the air gun at anything you do not intend to shoot.
B. To Take the Airgun "OFF SAFE":
• Push the safety from the right side all the way in. When you can see the RED ring around the left side of the safety,
the airgun is "OFF SAFE" and can be fired.
Like all mechanical devices, an airgun safety can fail. Even when the safety is "ON SAFE", you should continue to handle
the airgun safely. NEVER point the airgun at any person. NEVER point the air gun at anything you do not intend to shoot
3. Installing and Removing the AirSource Cylinder
NOTE: You should use only Crosman or Game Face brand 88 gram AirSource CO2
cylinders. They are made to fit the Model AS392 airgun. Other brands of CO2
cylinder may not fit properly and if you force them into place it may result in injury
to you or damage to your airgun. Never try to force any CO2 cylinder into or out of
place. We recommend you do not store your airgun with a CO2 cylinder on it. If you
know you will not be using your airgun for an extended period of time, empty the
CO2 cylinder and remove it from the airgun.
A. Installing the AirSource Cylinder
• Make sure the air rifle is "ON SAFE" (See Section 2A).
• Make sure the air rifle is unloaded (See Section 4B).
• Point the air rifle in a SAFE DIRECTION.
• Remove protective cap from AirSource CO2 cylinder
• Screw the AirSource cylinder in to the piercing assembly until hand tight. (Fig. 3)
• Open and cock the bolt by pulling the bolt handle up and all the way back. The
tip of the bolt should be visible in the breech. (Figure 4)
• Without loading any ammunition, return the bolt handle to the locked position
by firmly pushing the bolt handle all the way forward and down. DO NOT jam
the bolt forward. This will damage your air rifle.
• Point the airgun in a SAFE DIRECTION, take "OFF SAFE" (See Section 2B)
and pull the trigger. If the airgun does not make a popping noise after pulling
the trigger, the CO2 is not being discharged. In that event, you will have to
repeat the process above, tightening the AirSource cylinder a little more,
pointing the airgun in a SAFE DIRECTION and pulling the trigger until there is
a popping noise, which will mean the airgun is releasing CO2 with each pull of
the trigger.
• Return the safety to the "ON SAFE" position (See Section 2A).
• Place re-usable protective skin on the AirSource CO2 cylinder.
• Your gun is now charged and ready to use in a safe manner.
B. Removing the AirSource Cylinder
• Put the airgun in the "ON SAFE" position (See Section 2A).
• Make sure the airgun is unloaded (See Section 4C).
• Turn the AirSource CO2 cylinder slowly counterclockwise to allow any
remaining CO2 gas to escape.
IMPORTANT: Avoid contact with the escaping CO2, as it can cause
frostbite. Take special care if you are removing an AirSource cylinder
which is full, as much more CO2 gas will need to be released.
• Remove and save the re-usable protective skin from the AirSource
cylinder.
4. Loading and Unloading Pellets
A. Loading Pellets
•Put the airgun "ON SAFE." (See Section 2A)
• Point the airgun in a SAFE DIRECTION.
•Push bolt handle up and pull all the way back until you hear two clicks. (Fig. 4)
•With the bolt in the open position, place one pellet, nose first, into the loading port (breech) (Fig. 4). This is a single
shot pellet airgun. Load no more than one pellet at a time.
•Lightly push the pellet into the barrel by closing the bolt and pushing the bolt handle down to lock. DO NOT jam the
bolt forward. This will damage your airgun.
•Be sure bolt is closed before firing. If it is not closed and fully locked, the pellet may not be discharged.
B. Unloading Pellets
NOTE: The airgun must be charged with CO2 when following these steps, but remember, do not store your airgun with
a CO2 cartridge in it. (See Section 3)
•Aim the airgun in a SAFE DIRECTION, take it "OFF SAFE" (See Section 2B) and fire. You may also unload your
airgun by following the directions listed under Step 6 - Removing a Jammed Pellet.
5. Aiming and Firing Safely
This airgun is equipped with a dovetail groove to allow mounting of a scope or other optic.
•Mount and sight in scope following instructions provided with your scope.
•You and others with you should always wear shooting glasses to protect your eyes.
•Always aim your airgun in a SAFE DIRECTION. When you are sure of your target and backstop, and the area around
the target is clear, take the airgun "OFF SAFE" (See Section 2B) and pull the trigger to fire.
•Do not shoot at hard surfaces or at the surface of water. The pellet may bounce off or ricochet and hit someone or
something you had not intended to hit.
•Always choose your target carefully. It is best to shoot at paper bullseye targets which are attached to a safe backstop
such as the Crosman 850 Target Trap. A heavy blanket should be hung behind the Target Trap to prevent ricochet
should you miss the backstop.
•Your backstop should be checked for wear before and after each use. Replace your backstop if the surface is worn or
damaged or if a ricochet occurs.
•Your airgun is designed for target shooting and is suited for both indoor and outdoor use. Always remember to place
your target carefully. THINK about what you will hit if you miss the target.
6. Removing a Jammed Pellet
• Put the airgun "on safe." (See Section 2A)
• Empty and remove the CO
2
cartridge. (See
Section 3b)
• Open the bolt. (See Section 4A) (Fig.4)
• Insert a cleaning rod or ramrod of the proper
size into the barrel (start at the muzzle). The
barrel could be damaged if the proper sized
cleaning rod or ramrod is not used.
• Push the jammed pellet into the pellet loading
port (forward of the bolt). (Fig. 5)
• Do not try to reuse that pellet.
• If you are not able to unjam your airgun by following
this procedure, take no further action. An Authorized Service Station will unjam your airgun (no cost during the warranty period).
7. Maintaining Your Airgun
• Your airgun will work best if you oil it every 250 shots. Put a drop of our Crosman #0241 Lubricating Oil directly on the
tip of the AirSource CO
2
cartridge before inserting and on o-ring located on the bolt (Fig. 4) Do not over-oil as this can
cause damage to your airgun. DO NOT use gun oil or any other oil which contains solvents. External metal surfaces
should be wiped with a lightly oiled cloth after each use.
• If the accuracy of your airgun falls off, run a firm but free fitting patch through the barrel. Be sure to use a cleaning rod
of the proper size that will not damage the barrel.
• Tampering with the airgun or attempts to change the airgun in any way may make it unsafe to use.
• If you drop your airgun, visually check to see that it works properly before you use it again. If anything seems
changed, like a shorter or weaker trigger pull, this may mean worn out or broken parts. Call the factory for assistance
before using the airgun again.
8. Reviewing Safety
• Never point the airgun at any person or at anything you do not intend to shoot.
• Always treat the airgun as though it is loaded and with the same respect you would a firearm.
• Always aim in a SAFE DIRECTION. Always keep the muzzle of the airgun pointed in a SAFE DIRECTION.
• Always keep the airgun on safe until you are ready to shoot.
• Always check to see if the airgun is "ON SAFE" and unloaded when getting it from another person or from storage.
• Always keep your finger off the trigger and out of the trigger guard until ready to shoot.
• You and others with you should always wear shooting glasses to protect your eyes.
• If your reading or prescription glasses are not safety glasses, make sure you wear shooting glasses over your regular glasses.
• Use .22 caliber (5.5 mm) pellets only. Never reuse ammunition.
• Do not shoot at hard surfaces or at the surface of water. The pellet may bounce off or ricochet and hit someone or
something you had not intended to hit.
• Place the backstop in a location that will be safe should the backstop fail.
• Your backstop should be checked for wear before and after each use. All backstops are subject to wear and will
eventually fail. Replace your backstop if the surface is worn or damaged or if a ricochet occurs.
• Do not attempt to disassemble or tamper with your airgun. Use an Authorized Service Station. Using unauthorized
repair centers or modifying the function of your airgun in any way may be unsafe and will void your warranty.
• Always keep your CrosBlock trigger block in place when storing this airgun. Store airgun in a secure location. (See
CrosBlock instructions packaged with this airgun for assistance)
• Before you store your airgun, make sure that it is unloaded, not charged, and that the airgun is "ON SAFE."
