Annual Maintenance

for Your Air Conditioner

Your air conditioner needs annuai mainte­

nance to heip insure steady, top performance
throughout the year. Caii the sen/ice company

recommended by yourdeaierto:

• inspect and ciean the coiis and condensate

water passage.

• Check fans and the fan motor. (The com­

pressor is seaied and needs no oiiing.)

Expense of annual inspection is customer's
responsibility.

Do-It-Yourself Maintenance

if you are familiar with electrical appliances you can do the cleaning and maintenance yourself.

If you decide to go ahead, follow these steps.

A WARNING: Handle the air condi­

tioner with care. Watch out for the

sharp metal fins on the coils. Use pro­
per lifting techniques to avoid person­
al injury.

/V WARNING: To prevent possible

electrical shock, unplug unit from

electrical supply or turn off at fuse box
or circuit breaker.

1. Remove front panel. (See page 5 or refer to

Installation Instructions.)

2.

Pull control knobs straight off. Remove the

control plate.

3.

Remove the green ground wire. It is attach­

ed with a screw located on the bottom left
side under the control plate. (Save the
screw to reattach wire.)

4.

Pull out handle and slide air conditioner

out of cabinet. NOTE: The air condi­
tioner Is heavy and should be removed

by at least two people.

5.

Wrap the motor, electrical control box and

compressor terminals box in plastic film
and make sure no water or other liquid
gets inside any of these parts. It would
damage insulation and cause serious

problems.

Carefully clean and hose out the base, coils

electrical supply or turn off at fuse box
or circuit breaker.

and condensate parts. Clean at least once
a year, or more often if the condenser coil
and base collect dirt, sand, leaves, insects
or algae. Also, clean if you detect an odor
coming from the air conditioner. (A good
time to oil the motor is when you already

have the cabinet open. See instructions that

follow)

Remove plastic film from motor and elec­

trical parts.

Replace unit in cabinet.

Reattach ground wire. Replace control plate

and knobs.

Replace front panel.

NOTE: It is best to wait 24 hours before

sfarting fhe unit again. This allows all areas
to dry out. (The water from rainfall or from
normal operation does not harm these
components.)

1. Remove unit from cabinet. (Follow instruc­

tions under "Do-It-Yourself Maintenance" or

in Installation Instructions.)

2.

Oil the fan motor per instructions on the

motor. To add oil, remove the oil hole plug at
each end of motor. An easy to use capsule
of especially recommended oil (Part

Number 10943) is available through your

nearest Whirlpool Factory Senrice Center, or
use SAE #20 non-detergent oil.

Replace the plugs to keep dirt from motor

bearings.

4.

Replace unit in cabinet.
