6. Unhook the idler spring from the top of the idler
spring screw near the RH spindle assembly. It is
not necessary to remove the spring from the idler
bracket.
7. Slide the belt off and over the LH spindle pulley.
Then pull the belt under the LH spindle cover
mounting strap; off the fixed flat idler pulley and
center spindle pulley; and under the idler bracket.
8. Remove the three hex flange lock nuts and
carriage bolts securing the gear box mounting
bracket to the deck.
9. Lift the gear box / mounting bracket assembly and
slide the belt off and underneath the drive pulley.
10. Remove the belt from the deck.
INSTALL NEW SPINDLE BELT
1. Lift the gear box/mounting bracket assembly to
install the belt around the rear of the drive pulley
and through the center opening of the mounting
bracket.
2. Install the gear box mounting bracket on the deck
and secure with the three carriage bolts and hex
flange lock nuts.
3. Route the backside of the belt around the
movable flat idler pulley.
4. Loop the belt and slide it underneath the idler
bracket and LH spindle cover mounting strap.
5. Route the belt as follows:
• around the left spindle pulley
• around the rear of the fixed flat idler pulley
• around the front of the center spindle pulley
• to the right spindle pulley
6. Hook the idler spring onto the idler spring screw,
between the two lock nuts.
7. After making certain the belt is properly routed
(Refer to Figure 31), insert a 1/2” drive ratchet or
breaker bar into the square hole of the idler
bracket.
8. Using the ratchet (or breaker bar) for leverage,
pivot the idler bracket toward the left side of the
deck to loosen tension and allow the spindle belt
to be rolled onto the right hand spindle pulley.
9. Install the RH spindle cover mounting strap with
the two carriage bolts and hex flange lock nuts.
The rear carriage bolt should be inserted from the
top of the deck
10. Install the spindle covers and secure with the hex
screws and bell washers.
