Operation
This chapter gives examples of typical instrument applications and instructions on how to operate the
instrument properly and safely.
WARNING
Risk of injury.
Never operate the instrument when glassware is damaged.
•
ATTENTION
Hot, caustic hydrochloric acid is used for the operation of the instrument. For this reason, personal
protective equipment must be worn at all times when using this instrument or working in its imme-
diate proximity.
6 .1
Sample weight
The sample weight depends on the fat content of the sample. It should be chosen in a way that the
final weight is between 0.5 and 1.5 g of fat. The maximum sample weigth is 10 g.
6 .2
Preheating
The “preheating” position serves to preheat the instrument. This preheating procedure takes about
10 minutes. Thus an initial boiling point of the sample is achieved in a shorter period of time. The
preheating must always be carried out before a hydrolysis process is started.
6 .3
Preparing the digestion vessels
Put 5 g celite 545 into the digestion vessel.
