4. Put the required amount of coffee into the filter (about one scoop per cup) and close the filter holder. Before

turning the appliance on, check that the filter holder is properly closed. If not, this could cause hot water or
coffee to overflow.

5. Put the jug on the hotplate (part no.16) ensuring the lid is closed.

6. Check that the on/off button (part no.15) of the filter coffee maker is in the off position. Connect the

appliance to the mains and turn the coffee maker on. When the appliance is on, the red light on the button
comes on.

7. After a short time, hot water starts to flow through the filter. Brewing time is about 1 minute per cup.

8. Never open the lids for the water tanks while the machine is running, and do not change the position of the

filter holder. To pour coffee from the jug before all the water has run through, simply take the jug from the
hot plate. The automatic drip control stops the flow of coffee. You must put the jug back on the hot plate in
under 30 seconds. When the jug is back on the hot plate, the flow of coffee resumes automatically. The drip
control feature of the filter holder prevents the coffee from dripping onto the hot plate when the jug is
removed.

9. Allow all of the water to flow out of the water tank and the coffee to flow into the jug. Leave the lid of the jug

on even while serving the coffee. Note: The amount of coffee will always be less then the water poured into
the water tank because about 10% of the water is absorbed by the coffee powder and the filter, or
evaporates.

10. The hot plate remains warm for the whole time the appliance is on, keeping the coffee warm. Do not allow

all of the coffee in the jug to evaporate due to being on the hot plate. For optimum flavour, do not let the
coffee stand for a while.

11. Once the coffee is made, turn the appliance off using the on/off button, then remove the power cord from the

mains. When the appliance is not in use always turn the on/off button off. Before making more coffee, wait
for at least ten minutes to allow the appliance to cool down. To avoid burns, do not open the filter holder to
empty the filter of grounds before this cooling time is over.

Important warnings for using the filter coffee maker

If the coffee maker is on (after making coffee) do not put the empty jug on the hot plate.

Do not use the jug if it is cracked or chipped.

Never put ground coffee into the filter holder without the re-usable filter or a paper filter cone in place.

Never reheat coffee by running it through the filter coffee maker.

Only ever pour cold water into the filter coffee maker's water tank, or lime juice in the amount detailed in the
manual when removing limescale or other deposits. Do not pour any other liquid into the water tank. You
must not pour coffee prepared earlier into the water tank and run it through the coffee maker to reheat it.

Never pour hot water into the water tank.

Before filling the water tank again with cold water, wait for the appliance to cool down.

Never leave water standing in the water tank.

Measuring ground coffee for making filter coffee; advice about how much coffee to use.

Always use good quality coffee. Choose ground coffee recommended for use in a filter coffee maker.

If you grind the coffee yourself, do not grind the beans to too fine a texture.

Allow for one scoop of coffee per cup, however you can use more or less coffee according to taste: adjust the
amount of coffee to your personal taste based on experience.

Always store ground coffee in an airtight container in the fridge.

MAINTENANCE AND CLEANING

Attention! Before cleaning, always turn off both parts of the appliance, and the power cord must
be removed from the mains. Wait for the appliance to cool down completely, and only then touch
the casing and begin cleaning the machine.

Never immerse the appliance in water, never spray it with water and never hold it under a tap.

1. Clean the outside cover of the appliance with a damp, soft, lint-free cloth and then wipe the cleaned surfaces

with a dry lint-free cloth. Take care not to allow any moisture inside the cover. Let the appliance dry
completely before re-using or storing it.

2. Never use solvents to clean the appliance (acetone, benzene, gasoline, alcohol, etc.) as they could eat into the

casing or get inside the appliance, damaging the inner parts. Do not use rough or abrasive cleaning agents.

3. The removable parts of the appliance (the espresso maker's filter holder and filter, drip tray and drip tray

cover, and the filter coffee maker's filter holder and re-usable filter) can be washed in warm (not too hot),
soapy water or in a dishwasher (place items in the upper drawer away from the heater). Never put the glass
jugs in a dishwasher, always wash them by hand. After washing, rinse the parts with warm (not too hot)
running water and let them dry them completely. When they are completely dry, put them back into the
appliance.

4. The coffee maker should only be packed away for storage when it is completely cool and has been cleaned. If

you do not wish to use the appliance for a while, put it in a plastic bag and store it in a dry, dust-free place.
Make sure the water tank is completely dry to prevent any mould from forming. The mains cable must not be
wound round the appliance, even when stored, because this can cause the insulation to deteriorate or break.

Important: the espresso maker's steam wand must be cleaned straight after each use by releasing steam
through it for one to two minutes after frothing milk; the steam flow will clean the steam wand from the
inside.
