Using Your Inspiron Laptop
1 Function key row — The wireless enable or disable key
, brightness increase
and
decrease
keys, multimedia keys, and the touch pad enable or disable key

located in this row.

2 Caps Lock status light — Turns on when Caps Lock is enabled. A solid white light indicates
that Caps Lock is enabled.
3 Touch pad — Provides the functionality of a mouse to move the cursor, drag or move
selected items, and left-click by tapping the surface.
The touch pad supports the Scroll, Flick, Zoom, and Rotate features. To change the touch
pad settings, double-click the Dell Touch pad icon in the notification area of your desktop.

NOTE:
To enable or disable the touch pad, press the
key on the function key row on
the keyboard.
4 Touch pad buttons — Provide left-click and right-click functions like those on a mouse.
5 Power/Battery status light — Indicates the power and the battery charge status. For
more information on the power/battery status light, see “Status Lights and Indicators” on
page 26.
6 Hard drive activity light — Turns on when the computer reads or writes data. A solid white
light indicates hard drive activity.
CAUTION: To avoid loss of data, never turn off the computer when the hard drive
activity light is on.
