8. The vehicle jacking points are
shown here, and are depicted on the
yellow warning label on the jack.
Depending on which tire is to be
changed, put the jack approximately
7 inches (18 cm) from the front
wheel opening (1) or approximately
17 inches (43 cm) from the rear
wheel opening (2).
Jack at the specified locations
to avoid damage to the vehicle.
WARNING: To lessen the risk of personal injury, do not put any
part of your body under the vehicle while changing a tire. Do not
start the engine when your vehicle is on the jack. The jack is only
meant for changing the tire.
9. Remove the lug nuts with the lug wrench.
10. Replace the flat tire with the spare tire, making sure the valve stem
is facing outward. Reinstall the lug nuts until the wheel is snug against
the hub. Do not fully tighten the lug nuts until the wheel has been
lowered.
11. Lower the wheel by turning the jack handle counterclockwise.
12. Remove the jack and fully
tighten the lug nuts in the order
shown. Refer to Wheel lug nut
torque specifications later in this
chapter for the proper lug nut
torque specification.
13. Put the flat tire, jack and lug
wrench away. Make sure the jack is
fastened so it does not rattle when
you drive. Unblock the wheels.
