5 drops of Aluminum Complexing Reagent (7868). Cap and mix.
Follow Steps 2 through 5 below. Subtract this blank reading from the
test results.
1.
Fill a test tube (0898) to the lower line (5 mL) with sample water.
2.
Use the 0.05 g spoon (0696) to add one measure of *Aluminum
Inhibitor Reagent (7865). Shake until powder dissolves.
3.
Use a 1 mL pipet (0354) to add 2 mL of *Aluminum Buffer
Reagent (7866).
4.
Use a second 1 mL pipet (0354) to add 1 mL of Aluminum
Indicator Reagent (7867). Cap and invert several times to mix.
Wait 5 minutes.
5.
Insert test tube into Aluminum Comparator (7869). Match sample
color to a color standard. Subtract reading from blank. Record as
ppm aluminum.
NOTE:
Color begins to fade after 15 minutes.
NOTE:
If the color is darker than that of the 0.5 ppm standard,
the test should be repeated on a dilution of the original sample and
the test result multiplied by the dilution factor. For example, if 1
mL is diluted to 5 mL with distilled water, multiply the result by 5.
