PRO CE DURE 1:

FREE AVAIL ABLE CHLO RINE, MONOCHLORAMINE,

DICHLORAMINE & TO TAL RE SID UAL CHLO RINE

FREE AVAILABLE CHLORINE
1.

Rinse the test tube (0898) with sample water. Fill to the bottom line
with sample water.

2.

Add one *Chlorine DPD #1R Tablet (6999A). Crush tablet with
tablet crusher (0175). Cap the test tube and mix until tablet
disintegrates.

3.

Immediately insert the test tube into the Chlorine DPD Comparator,
0.1-1.0 ppm (6978) or the Chlorine DPD Comparator, 1.0-6.0 ppm
(6979). Match sample color to a color standard. Color matching
should be completed within one minute from the addition of the
*Chlorine DPD #1R Tablet. This is the Free Available Chlorine
concentration of the test sample. Record as Reading A.

4.

Retain this test sample for the Monochloramine Determination.

MONOCHLORAMINE
5.

To the test sample from Step 4 above, add one Chlorine DPD #2R
Tablet (6904A). Crush tablet with tablet crusher (0175). Cap the test
tube and mix until tablet disintegrates.

6.

Insert the test tube into the Chlorine DPD Comparator, 0.1-1.0 ppm
(6978) or the Chlorine DPD Comparator, 1.0-6.0 ppm (6979).
Match sample color to a color standard. Record as Reading B. Any
increase in color over Reading A is due to Monochloramine.

Reading B - Reading A = Monochloramine (ppm)

Retain this test sample for the Dichloramine determination.

DICHLORAMINE & TOTAL RESIDUAL CHLORINE
8.

To the test sample from Step 7 above, add one *Chlorine DPD #3R
Tablet (6905A). Crush tablet with tablet crusher (0175). Cap the test
tube and mix until tablet disintegrates.

9.

Insert the test tube into the Chlorine DPD Comparator, 0.1-1.0 ppm
(6978) or the Chlorine DPD Comparator, 1.0-6.0 ppm (6979).
Match sample color to a color standard. Record as Reading C. The
increase in color over Reading B is due to Dichloramine.

Reading C - Reading B = Dichloramine (ppm)

10.

Reading C also represents the Total Residual Chlorine content.
