TOTAL RESIDUAL CHLORINE

COMBINED CHLORINE
Subtract the Free Available Chlorine reading from the Total Residual Chlorine reading
to determine ppm Combined Chlorine (Monochloramine, Dichloramine, and Nitrogen
Trichloride) present in the water sample.

Fill the Water Sample

Bottle (28021) with

sample water. This will

be used to dispense

sample water for the

tests.

Push the READ

button to turn the

meter on. Press the

ZERO

button

and hold it for 2

seconds until

bla

is

displayed. Release

the button to take a

zero reading

(0 ppm). Remove

the vial.

Insert the vial

into the

chamber.

Close the lid.

Push the

READ button.

Record results as

ppm Total

Residual Chlorine.

Rinse and fill

an empty vial

(28560) with

3 mL sample

water. Wipe

dry.

Use the syringe

(1184) to add 3 mL

of sample water to a

Total Chlorine Unit

Dose Vial (4312).

Invert 3 times to mix.

Wipe vial dry. Wait 2

minutes for full color

development*.

Insert the vial

into the

chamber.

Close the lid.

This vial is the

blank or zero.
