5 Troubleshooting
5.1 Problems and their solutions
Problem Cause Remedy
Marked drop in
pressure Leak in the system. Check and seal connections (see Chapter 2.5,
page 12).
Marked rise in pres-
sure 6.2821.120 inline filter
blocked. Replace 6.2821.130 filter (see Chapter 4.6,
page 69).
Conductivity detector
blocked. ￭ Shorten capillary ends by several mm (see
Chapter 4.11.1, page 73).
￭ Rinse detector against the normal flow
direction (see Chapter 4.11.1, page 73).
Guard column – blocked. Replace guard column (see Chapter 2.18,
page 48).
Separation column –
blocked. ￭ Regenerate separation column (see Chap-
ter 4.12.4, page 75).
￭ Replace separation column (see "Connect-
ing and rinsing the separation column",
page 51).
Note: Samples should always be microfiltered
(see Chapter 4.7, page 71).
Injection valve – valve
blocked. Have the valve cleaned (by Metrohm service
technicians).
Drift of the baseline Thermal equilibrium not yet
attained. Condition (see Chapter 2.15, page 42) instru-
ment with the column thermostat (see Chap-
ter 3.2, page 53) switched on .
Leak in the system. Check and seal connections (see Chapter 2.5,
page 12).
Eluent – Evaporation of the
organic solvent in the elu-
ent. Check the eluent bottle attachment (see Figure
13, page 27).
Peak areas lower
than expected Sample – Leak in the sam-
ple path. Check the sample path.
