Using the WD SmartWare Icon
After you have installed the WD SmartWare software, the WD SmartWare icon
displays in the bar at the top right of the screen.
Clicking the icon enables you to perform the following actions:
• Open the WD SmartWare software
• Dismount the virtual CD
• Safely dismount the drive
• Check the remaining capacity of the drive
• Display the serial number of the drive
• Display the temperature of the drive
The sections below describe how to use the icon and alternative methods to perform
these actions, as well as how to unlock the My Passport Elite drive manually.
Opening WD SmartWare Software
If the WD SmartWare software does not open automatically after it has been installed,
you have two ways to open it:
• Click the WD SmartWare icon and select Open WD SmartWare.
• Double-click WD SmartWare in the Applications list.
