2) Install the upper shaft through the fire wall, and attach to the factory u-joint (under the
dash) and tighten.
3) Install the lower u-joint on the rack and pinion and tighten. (this will have to be loosened
in an upcoming step)
4) Align the lower shaft next to the lower u-joint and determine how much will need to be
trimmed (shaft should be flush to the inside of the yoke). Measure closely, and mark the
shaft where it will be needed to be cut.( see Fig.2 below)
5) Remove the lower shaft and lower u-joint. Cut to length.
6) Insert the lower shaft into the lower u-joint, and determine where to make the notch for
the lower u-joints pinch bolt.
7) Make the notch by using a small grinder, file, or mill/drill.(see Fig. 3 below)
8) Reassemble and install. Tighten all pinch bolts. If using a manual rack and pinion torque
the pinch bolt to 40ft lbs.
