The Multi-Standard Solution with Software Defined
Radio (SDR) Technology
To allow you to reuse existing sites, even when no space
is available, Alcatel-Lucent plans to integrate multiple
technologies into multi-standard cabinets: WiMAX plus
GSM or WiMAX plus 3G in the same rack.
In addition, a new generation of innovative transceiver
modules based on Software Defined Radio (SDR)
technology are being developed. The Radio Access Point
can then be remotely configured by software from O&M
to activate one or several radio technologies (i.e., GSM,
CDMA, UMTS, WiMAX).
The benefit of this unique generation of modules will be
reduced investment and operating expenses when reusing
existing radio sites for WiMAX. In particular, you will be
able to:
• Have WiMAX and GSM or WiMAX and UMTS
or WiMAX and CDMA in a single cabinet
• Minimize maintenance spares
• Benefit from a better flexibility in terms of frequency
resources
• Minimize power consumption
