Mimo, Combined – Alcatel-Lucent WiMAX User Manual

In addition, beam forming strongly reduces
interference and improves indoor penetration,
hence optimizing spectrum usage
― ultimately
re-using one single frequency
― and improving
quality of service.
MIMO
(Multiple Input, Multiple Output)
allows for additional increases in capacity
and/or coverage for a given cell versus single
antenna systems. For example, MIMO offers
additional capacity from 25 percent in macro-
cell environments, up to 80 percent in micro-
cellular (i.e., indoor or hotspot) environments.
Combined
, these capabilities not only
increase coverage, but also help ensure highly
efficient data throughput. As a result, Alcatel-
Lucent’s WiMAX solution offers:
• Coverage enhancements: up to 40 percent
fewer sites required to cover a given area
• Capacity increases: up to twice the capacity
versus single antenna systems
• Improved indoor penetration
• Powerful interference reduction
• The capability to reuse existing 2G/3G
radio sites

Alcatel-Lucent’s WiMAX Advanced Antenna Technology implements
both MIMO and beam forming thus enabling you to benefit from the best
combination for your network roll-out.
