INSTRUCTIONS
Congratulations on your purchase of Zoo Med’s REPTISUN ® TERRARIUM HOOD! The
following instructions will assist you with the proper set-up and operation of this unit.

FEATURES:
Low profi le hood fi ts terrariums 20 inches wide and up (10 gallon or larger).
• UVB is needed for growth and strong bones. Prevent or reverse Metabolic Bone
Disease by using this hood with a REPTISUN ® UVB lamp.
• UVB, UVA & Visible Light: Use with the 18” REPTISUN ® 5.0 linear fl uorescent lamp for
tropical species, or the REPTISUN ® 10.0 linear fl uorescent lamp for desert species.
• UVA & Bright Daylight: Use with 18” NATURESUN ® Linear Fluorescent Lamp (for most
amphibians and snakes).
SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS:
IMPORTANT: In order to reduce the risk of fi res or electric shock, read and save these
instructions prior to operation.
• DO NOT exceed electrical rating.
• DO NOT splice, repair, or modify. Fully extend cord before using.
• DO NOT use in wet conditions. Use indoors only. Not for use with aquariums.
• Keep children and pets (other than your terrarium animals) away from fi xture.
• Fully insert plug. Unplug power cord before inserting or changing bulb.
• DO NOT cover with blankets, rugs or any material.
• DO NOT use damaged cord sets – inspect periodically.
• DO NOT alter or modify this product. Contact an electrician if you are unsure about
the electrical connection.
• This unit has no user-serviceable parts. Do not attempt to examine or repair this
product yourself. Return to Zoo Med for inspection and repair.

POLARIZED: This appliance has a POLARIZED plug (one blade is wider than the other).
To reduce the risk of electric shock, this plug is intended to fi t in a polarized outlet only
one way. If the plug does not fi t fully in the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fi t,
contact a qualifi ed electrician. Do not modify the plug in any way.
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS:
Zoo Med’s new 18 inch size REPTISUN ® Terrarium Hood is designed to fi t terrariums 20
inches wide and up (10 gallon or larger). This hood can hold one 18 inch REPTISUN ® or
NATURESUN ® Linear Fluorescent lamp. A built-in refl ector allows for deeper penetra-
tion of visible light and UVB into your terrarium. UVB is needed by reptiles for the proper
growth and maintenance of strong bones. Without UVB (and the appropriate tempera-
tures), your reptile can develop metabolic bone disease which results in soft, rubbery
bones within 6 months. Reptiles and amphibians can see things illuminated by UVA
lighting that people can’t. UVA is important for the psychological well-being of reptiles
and amphibians.
Select the appropriate lamp from the following list (lamp sold separately). Be sure that
the hood is unplugged when removing or installing the lamp. Install lamp into fi xture by
inserting pins into lampholders and rotating the lamp one quarter turn. Place the fi xture
on top of the terrarium above the screen cover. Fully insert plug into power outlet. Turn
fi xture on using the on/off switch located on the back of the fi xture near the power cord.
*Note: Reptiles should maintain a minimum safe distance of 6 inches from any UVB
lamp. Set up your terrarium in a way that will prevent your animals from getting too close
to their UVB lamp.
REPTISUN ® 5.0 UVB:
This lamp provides benefi cial UVB, UVA, and visible light at distances up to 12 inches
from the surface of the lamp. It is recommended for use with tropical reptile species in
terrariums with a maximum height of 12 inches* (e.g. 10 gallon, 15 gallon, 20 gallon
long, and 30 gallon breeder sizes).
REPTISUN ® 10.0 UVB:
This lamp provides benefi cial UVB, UVA, and visible light at distances up to 20 inches
from the surface of the lamp. It is recommended for use with desert reptile species. Also
recommended for use with tropical reptile species in terrariums with fi ne screen covers
and with a minimum height of 16 inches* (e.g. 20 gallon, 29 gallon, and 40 gallon sizes).
NATURESUN ® :
This lamp provides benefi cial UVA, and bright visible daylight at distances up to 20
inches from the surface of the lamp. It is recommended for use with amphibians, snakes,
and arachnids (e.g. tarantulas). This lamp is not designed to provide UVB for reptiles and
amphibians.
WARRANTY:
Zoo Med Laboratories, Inc. (Zoo Med) warrants each REPTISUN ® Terrarium Hood to be
free of defects in material and workmanship under normal use and service for one year
from the date of purchase. The obligation under this warranty is limited to the repair or
replacement, at Zoo Med’s discretion, of the product or any part thereof, when the prod-
uct is returned to Zoo Med, freight prepaid. No claim shall be allowed under this warranty
if, in the opinion of Zoo Med, the REPTISUN ® Terrarium Hood has been subject to ac-
cident or improper usage, including but not limited to: water damage, improper storage,
accidental dropping, etc. This warranty is in lieu of all other warranties and representa-
tions express or implied. Please include your receipt, full name, address, phone number,
and email address along with a note explaining failure when sending any product back to
Zoo Med. Please allow 4 to 6 weeks for repair or replacement.
