Checking the status of the printer
The printer desktop icon shows the status of the printer.
Icon Meaning
The printer is idle and is set as the default printer.
The printer is idle and is not set as the default printer.
Printing is occurring on the default printer.
Printing has stopped on the default printer.
An error occurred on the default printer.
The printer software is not available.
Viewing and changing the status of a print job
When using background printing, open the Print Status dialog box to view the status of
the document as it prints.

Double-click the HP printer icon on the desktop to open the Print Status dialog box.
