1. Area of applicability
These safety instructions apply to the vibrating level switch of type series OPTISWITCH 3100 C
VF314.L*****A* / 3300 C VF334.L*****A* with integrated oscillator VB60C/R/T/Z acc. to the EC type
approval certificate no. PTB 05 ATEX 1049 (certification number on the type label).
2. General
The OPTISWITCH 3*00 C VF3*4.L*****A* vibrating level switches are used for level measurement in
hazardous areas. Products to be measured can also be combustible liquids, gases or vapours.
The OPTISWITCH 3*00 C VF3*4.L*****A* vibrating level switches are suitable for use in hazardous
atmospheres of all combustible materials of explosion group IIA, IIB, and IIC for applications requiring
instruments of category 1/2G or 2G.
If the vibrating level switches OPTISWITCH 3*00 C VF3*4.L*****A* are installed and operated in
hazardous areas, the general Ex-mounting instructions and these safety instructions have to be
observed.
The operating manual and the Ex-mounting instructions and standards for electrical equipment have
to be observed principally.
The installation of Ex-systems must always be carried out by trained personnel.
Category 1/2G instruments
The electronics housing of OPTISWITCH 3*00 C VF3*4.L*****A* is installed in Ex-areas requiring
instruments of category 2G.The process fitting elements are installed in the separating wall which
separates areas requiring instruments of category 2G or 1G. The sensor is installed in hazardous
areas requiring instruments of category 1G.
Category 2G instruments
The OPTISWITCH 3*00 C VF3*4.L*****A* vibrating level switches are installed in hazardous areas
requiring instruments of category 2G.
