1. Area of applicability
These safety instructions apply to the ultrasonic sensors OPTISOUND 3010/3020 C VF3*4.C***H***X
acc. to the EC type approval certificate PTB 05 ATEX 2062 X (certification number on the tag).
2. General
The measuring instrument OPTISOUND 3010/3020 C VF3*4.C***H***X based on ultrasonic
technology is used for detection of the distance between product surface and the transducer by
means of ultrasonic waves in the kHz range.
The electronics uses the running time of the signals reflected by the product surface to calculate the
distance to the product surface.
The products to be measured may also be combustible liquids, gases or vapours.
The ultrasonic sensors OPTISOUND 3010/3020 C VF3*4.C***H***X are suitable for use in hazardous
atmospheres of all combustible materials of explosion group IIA, IIB and IIC, for applications requiring
instruments of category 1 G, 1/2 G or 2 G.
If the ultrasonic sensors of type series OPTISOUND 3010/3020 C VF3*4.C***H***X are installed and
operated in hazardous areas, the general Ex-mounting instructions and theses safety instructions
have to be observed.
The operating instructions and the mounting regulations and standards for electrical plants in
hazardous areas have to be observed.
The installation of Ex-systems must always be carried out by trained personnel.
Category 1G instruments
The ultrasonic sensors OPTISOUND 3010/3020 C VF3*4.C***H***X are installed in hazardous areas
requiring instruments of category 1 G.
Category 1/2 G instruments
The electronics housing of the ultrasonic sensors type OPTISOUND 3010/3020 C VF3*4.C***H***X is
installed in hazardous areas in areas requiring instruments of category 2 G. The process fitting
element is installed in the wall which separates areas requiring instruments of category 2 G or 1 G.
The transducer wit the mechanical fixing element is installed in hazardous areas requiring instruments
of category 1 G.
Category 2 G
The ultrasonic sensors type OPTISOUND 3010/3020 C VF3*4.C***H***X are installed in hazardous
areas requiring instruments of category 2 .
