1. Control Valve – Can be automatic valve, demand regeneration
valve or solid state electronic control valve.
2. Mineral Tank – Storage tank for the mineral that softens the
water, untreated water flows through this tank.
3. Distributor Tube – Directs the flow of water through the mineral
tank.
4. Softening Resin – High capacity resin which removes hardness
(calcium and magnesium) and ferrous iron. See individual models
for hardness and iron removal rates.
5. Salt Storage Tank – Referred to in the water trade as the brine
tank. Stores salt which is mixed with water to regenerate
softening mineral. Salt water flows through the mineral bed
attracting the calcium and magnesium ions (hardness chemicals)
which are flushed to drain along with the salt water. This leaves
the original mineral regenerated and ready for the next softening
cycle.
6. Brine Tube – Transfers salt water to mineral bed enabling the
regeneration cycle to begin.
7. Brine Well – Allows salt water to be transferred to mineral bed
and keeps salt away from brine components.
8. Brine Well Cap – Prevents salt and other substances from entering
brine well.
9. Safety Brine Valve – Prevents water level in salt storage tank from
overflowing. Float mechanism shuts off valve located in brine line
if water level gets high.
10. Overflow Fitting – When connected to a drain adds additional
insurance against the possibility of water overflow.
11. Brine Line – Flexible tubing used to transfer water between the
mineral and salt brine tank.
