Timing-Advance Test Procedure - Analog T/L

This light measures advance by delaying the fl ash so that it appears to

align the crank shaft TDC mark to its pointer. The indicator knob will

display the degrees of advance.
1. Place the Inductive Pick up around the #1 spark plug wire.
2. Prepare the engine for timing tests, such as: warming-up, disabling

electric and vacuum control lines, and cleaning the wheel timing

marks. Then run the engine. When you press the buttons on the

handle the light should begin fl ashing.

3. Point the light beam onto the degree marks at the engine damper

wheel or fl ywheel, and move the mark to the TDC position using

the Advance knob, and read the timing advance on the back panel.

NOTE: Align your eye squarely with the timing marks when to avoid

parallax error.

4. To measure RPM, turn the advance knob until the RPM light is

on. The advance knob now indicates RPM. 15 degrees would be

1,500 RPM.

5. Compare the measurement with the specifi cation. Adjustments are

made by turning the distributor slightly or by moving the ignition

timing sen sor.

6. Restore all engine parts to their normal arrangement.

Charging the Batteries

Simply plug the AC charger into a 110 volt AC source, then plug the

AC charger into the Timing Light. The AC charger replaces the spark

pickup. A red LED, located near the nose of the timing light will fl ash

one time per second while the batteries are being charged. If the LED

fl ashed rapidly there is a charging fault and you may need to contact

technical support for assistance. If the LED turns off, the light is fully

charged. You may leave the charger plugged into the timing light for

an extended period of time.

Battery Pack Warranty

The battery pack is warranted for 90 days from the date of purchase.

Should the battery fail to charge, or hold a charge and the unit has

been in service for less than 90 days, simply return the light to GxT for

repair or replacement.

Automatic Power Shutdown

To save power the timing light will shut down 7 minutes after the last
button press.
