Assembly Instructions (Continued)
•Install the grease seal (9) by pressing into the backside of the
hub (7), flush with the end of the hub, Photo 3.
•Orient the rotor (11) and the rotor adapter (10) as shown in
Figure 1 and Photo 4. Attach the rotor to the adapter using bolts(12). Using an alternating sequence, apply red Loctite® 271 tothe threads, and torque to 25 ft-lb.
•Mount the adapter/rotor assembly (10/11) to the hub (7) using
bolts (13), as shown in Figure 1 and Photo 5. Using analternating sequence, apply red Loctite® 271 to the threads, andtorque to 55 ft-lb.
•Pack the small outer bearing cone (14) with high temperature
disc brake bearing grease and install into hub (7). Slide thehub/rotor assembly onto the spindle. Secure using spindlewasher (15) and OEM spindle nut, Photo 6. Adjust bearings bytightening the wheel bearing nut to 60 in-lbs. while turning thehub/rotor assembly (10/11). Install saved OEM nut lock (if any)on the wheel bearing nut with one pair of slots in-line with(covering) the cotter pin hole. Back off the adjusting nut lockassembly (or castle nut) one slot and install a new cotter pin (notsupplied). The resulting adjustment should be zero (nopre-load to 0.003 inch end play.
•Screw dust cap (17) into hub (7), Photo 7. Friction created by
the o-ring (16) on the dust cap keeps it from unscrewing.NOTE: The O.D. of the existing OEM spindle washer may belarger than the I.D. of the dust cap not allowing it to seat againstthe hub face. Therefore, use the spindle washer (15) suppliedwith the kit instead of the OEM washer.
•NOTE: Please reference the caution statement at the beginning
of the assembly instructions. Mount the caliper (18) onto thecaliper mounting bracket (1) using bolts (21) and washers (20),as shown in Figure 1. Initially place two .035” thick shims (19) oneach bolt between the caliper and the bracket, Photo 8.Temporarily tighten the mounting bolts and view the rotor (11)through the top opening of the caliper. The rotor should becentered in the caliper, Photo 9. If not, adjust by adding orsubtracting shims between the bracket and the caliper. Alwaysuse the same amount of shims on each of the two mountingbolts. NOTE: The end of each bolt must be flush with or slightlyprotruding from the head of the clinch nut, as shown in Figure 3.If necessary place spare shims between washer (20) and calipermounting ear to achieve the proper clinch nut engagement.Once the caliper alignment and clinch nut engagement arecorrect, remove the bolts one at a time, apply red Loctite® 271 tobolt threads, and torque to 40 ft-lb.
•Install the disc brake pads (22) into the caliper, with the friction
material facing the rotor (11), and secure in place using cotter pin(23), Photo 10.
