Your role in the acute care space has broadened and deepened. Diverse patient types and
co-morbidities make your world challenging. At the same time, technological advancements
promise to improve the quality of care while lowering costs.
Your challenges may include intubating difficult airways, monitoring and treating paediatric patients,
understanding the effect of drugs, and ensuring consistent quality of care across all skill levels.
Outside of the operating environment, you’re managing patient pain and sedation, diagnosing
patients through the critical pre- and postoperative periods. You are also more aware of the
cost pressures and need to drive operating efficiencies. And through it all, you must remain
calm in stressful situations, warm and caring to ease the patient’s anxiety.
