Specifications:

The Super Freeze is designed for use as a pipe-freezing tool. We strongly

recommend that it NOT be modified and/or used for any other application.

Physical characteristics, capacity and standard equipment: see fig 1.1

(SF 2500) and 1.2 (SF 2300).

Transport and handling:

Avoid shocks or violent movements. Secure the unit firmly during transport.

Inspect the unit for signs of damage and fully uncoil hoses before connecting

line cord to power supply.

Safety:

Caution: The freezing heads become very cold. Wear gloves to avoid risk of

frostbite.

Ground machine. Always plug the cord into a properly grounded socket.

Set up, positioning and operation:

• Stop water flow otherwise unit will not form ice plug.

• If possible allow the system to cool before freezing.

Warm water will cause circulation increasing the freeze time.

• Clean pipe and remove paint and insulating material.

• Connect freezing heads at same point for single ice plug or a suitable

distance for two separate plugs (Fig 2.1) using the cavity that best fits the

outside diameter of pipe.

Do not twist or kink hoses

• Switch on unit after ensuring there is unrestricted air circulation for the

fan.

After 2-3 minutes the heads will be at operating temperature.

Operating Instructions

Water should be sprayed (Fig 3.1) or Cool Gel (cat#74946, Fig. 3.2) should be

applied between the freezing heads and pipe in order to allow better contact

and to speed up the freezing process.

• Allow sufficient time for the ice plug to form (see table for approximate

freezing times) indicated by a sharp cracking sound from the pipe.

• Test the pipe for pressure by opening a valve or fitting downstream by

installing a line tap. The pipe can now be serviced.

• The Super Freeze should be kept running during the service period.

• When the work is completed, switch off unit and remove line cord from

socket.

Do not force the heads from the pipe to avoid damaging them.

• Let hoses defrost before storing in case.

• Wipe any moisture from the heads and the hoses before storing in the

case.

To obtain the best freezing times:

• Check for good contact between head and pipe.

• Add Cool gel between freezing head and pipe.

• Check if hose orientation is perpendicular towards pipe and the freeze

head is in one line with the hoses. (Fig 4.1 and Fig. 4.2) This is vital for

obtaining optimal freeze times.

• Connect freezing head to the top of a horizontal pipe section

• Wrap insulation around head and pipe.

Note: Approximate freezing times shown in tables give an approximate guide

for system temperatures between 15°C and 25°C.

Faster freeze times will be obtained with Copper tubes.

Any paint or dirt on the tube will increase the freeze time.

Troubleshooting:

• If heads do not become frosted:

Check power, check free air flow for fan and clean if required. Switch off

power and wait 3-5 minutes before restarting.

• If heads get cold but will not freeze:

Check for water flow in pipe.

If unit stops:

Wait 30 seconds before restarting.

Note: The compressor is thermally protected and will reset automatically after

an overload. If unit still does not function correctly and for all other maintenance

contact your RIDGID distributor.
