Using Standby
If you are using the Windows
®
XP Home operating system,
or are using the Windows
®
XP Pro operating system and are
not a member of a domain, power off the computer using the
Stand by command as follows:

Click Start, Turn off computer.
The Turn off computer window appears.

Click Stand By.
The computer saves the state of all open programs and files to
memory, turns off the display, and goes into a low-power
mode. The on/off light (
) blinks amber indicating the
machine is in Standby mode.
If you are using the Windows
®
XP Pro operating system and
are a member of a domain, power off the computer using the
Stand by command as follows:

Click Start, then Shut down.
The Shut Down window appears.

Select Stand by from the drop-down list of options.

Click OK.
