INDOOR INSTALLATIONS - The minimum
installed height of the completed fi replace
system for is 15' 0." The maximum height is
60' 0" (see Table 1).
OUTDOOR INSTALLATIONS - The minimum
installed height of the completed fi replace
system is 7' 3." The maximum height is 60"
(see Table 2).
The fi replace and chimney system must be
enclosed when installed in or passing through
a living area where combustibles or people may
come in contact with it. This is important to pre-
vent possible personal injury or fi re hazard.
For questions, please call your distributor or
the manufacturer. Special restrictions apply to
the front and facing of the fi replace and nearby
walls (See Pages 20, 21 & 22).

not modify or alter these components as this
may cause a potential serious hazard and void
the Warranty.

CLEARANCES AND HEIGHT
REQUIREMENTS
The fi replace may be placed on or near normal
construction materials*. The outside air kit,
fi restop spacer and roof fl ashing (not chase
fl ashings) may be placed directly on or against
normal construction materials. **
A combustible mantel may be installed 12"
above the opening of the fi replace as per NFPA
211-latest edition. In Canada, the minimum is
18" above the fi replace opening.
* In the USA, the chimney and fi replace outer
wrapper require a minimum 1"
air space
to insulation and construction materials.
In Canada, the chimney and fi replace outer
wrapper require a minimum 2" air space to
insulation and construction materials.
** Construction Materials:
• Framing Materials • Paneling
• Particle Board
• Flooring
• Dry Wall
• Plywood
• Noncombustible Insulating Materials
• Etc.
Notes (
Table 2
)
• Outdoor fi replace system less than 15 feet
height must be a minimum of 10 feet away
from a building or combustible structure.
The 10 foot rule applies on all cases (see
ten foot rule summary on Page 15).

with either the FTF8-CTD or FTF8-CTDT for
a minimum height on a complete system of
7' 3." The fi replace must be installed as a
Freestanding system and located a minimum
of 10' away from any building or structure
(refer to Figure 1).
• The minimum height will vary when using
other Firecraft or Lennox Terminations.
Chase Enclosure
A chase is a vertical box-like structure con-
structed to surround the fi replace and chimney.
Refer to Figure 4 for a typical chase confi gura-
tion. As with all chimney installations, avoid
overhead obstructions such as trees, power
lines, etc. A chase should be constructed and
insulated just like any outside wall. In a cold
climate, we recommend the base of the chase
should also be insulated between the solid
continuous fl oor beneath the fi replace and the
chase bottom. Chase insulation in a cold climate
installation is not required for safety.
Note: Do not insulate the chase cavity with
blown or fi ll type insulation materials.
Note: Local codes may not require fi restopping
at the ceiling levels for outside chase installa-
tions. However, it is recommended for safety
and the reduction of heat loss.
WARNING
Failure to use manufacture
provided parts, variations in
techniques and construction
materials or practices other than
those described in this manual
may create a fi re hazard and void

ASSEMBLY OUTLINE
Before You Start
Check your inventory list to be sure you have
all the necessary parts supplied in good us-
able condition. Check also for any concealed
damage.
Check the operation of the damper. Control
the damper by adjusting the damper rod in-
side the top center of the firebox opening,
behind the lintel (see Figure 3, next page).
• To CLOSE the damper, pull the damper rod
FORWARD (toward the front of the fireplace),
then slide LEFT until locked in position.
• To OPEN the damper, pull the damper rod
FORWARD (toward the front of the fireplace),
then slide RIGHT until locked in position.
