Troubleshooting
If you experience any of the following
difficulties while using the receiver, use this
troubleshooting guide to help remedy the
problem before requesting repairs. Should
any problem persist, consult your nearest
Sony dealer.
Power
The power is not turned on.
, Check that the AC power cord (mains lead) is
connected securely.
Picture
There is no picture.
, The connecting cords are not connected
securely.
, The connecting cords are damaged.
, The receiver is not connected to the correct
TV input jack (page 21).
, The video input on the TV is not set so that
you can view pictures from the receiver.
Picture noise appears.
, The disc is dirty or flawed.
, If the picture output from your receiver goes
through your VCR to get to your TV, the
copy-protection signal applied to some DVD
programmes could affect picture quality.
Even though you set the aspect ratio
in “TV TYPE” of “SCREEN SETUP,”
the picture does not fill the screen.
, The aspect ratio of the disc is fixed on your
DVD.
The picture is black and white.
, Depending on the TV, the picture on the
screen becomes black and white when you
play a disc recorded in the NTSC colour
system.
Sound
There is no sound.
, The connecting cord is not connected
securely.
, The connecting cord is damaged.
, Press MUTING on the remote if “MUTING
ON” is displayed on the front panel display.
, The protective device on the receiver has
been activated because of a short circuit. Turn
off the receiver, eliminate the short-circuit
problem and turn on the power again.
, The audio connecting cord is damaged.
Replace it with a new one.
, The receiver is in pause mode or in Slow-
motion Play mode. Press H to return to
normal play mode.
, Fast forward or fast reverse is performed.
Press H to return to normal play mode.
, Check the speaker settings (pages 23, 67).
The left and right sounds are
unbalanced or reversed.
, Check that the speakers and components are
connected correctly and securely.
, Adjust the front balance parameter in the
LEVEL menu (pages 26, 69).
Severe hum or noise is heard.
, Check that the speakers and components are
connected securely.
, Check that the connecting cords are away
from a transformer or motor, and at least
3 meters (10 feet) away from a TV set or
fluorescent light.
, Move your TV away from the audio
components.
, The plugs and jacks are dirty. Wipe them with
a cloth slightly moistened with alcohol.
, Clean the disc.
The sound loses stereo effect when
you play a VIDEO CD, or a CD.
, Set “AUDIO” to “STEREO” in the Control
Menu display (page 44).
, Make sure you connect the receiver
appropriately.
