The purpose of a test run is to identify any
unusual noises and vibrations, as well as to
confirm that the machine is performing as
intended.
To test run the Model W1704, do these steps:
1. Turn the variable speed control knob all the
way counter-clockwise or in the LOW direc-
tion as far as it will go.
2. Make sure that the spur center has been
removed from the spindle.
3. Pull the paddle switch up to start the lathe.
Once the lathe is running, listen for any
unusual noises. The machine should run
smoothly with little or no vibrations.
• If there are any unusual noises or vibra-
tions, STOP the lathe immediately by
pushing the paddle switch down.
4. Unplug the lathe and investigate the source
of the noise or vibration. DO NOT make any
adjustments to the lathe while it is plugged
in. The lathe should not be run any further
until the problems are corrected.
