11 OUTPUT & CONTROL MODES
An understanding of the NewTek 3Play™ system’s Control and
Output Modes is fundamental to its operation. A review of these
concepts provides the foundation for understanding the system
and its workflow.
For that reason, we’ll consider them right away, before proceeding
to examine other features and operations.
11.1 OUTPUT MODES
In many ways, it would not be incorrect to think of your NewTek 3Play™ system as not just one,
but two conjoined playout devices. The system features two independent audio/video output
sections – Output A, and Output B.
Figure 103
Each output is capable of functioning completely independently of the other, and either can be
directed to transmit any available audio/video source, whether live or recorded.
Physically, the main video outputs (along with their corresponding audio connections) appear on
the system’s backplate for connection to downstream devices as output 1 (3Play’s Output A) and
2 (Output B). During live production, both are represented on the Replay Desktop by individual
output monitors (Figure 103).
