TROUBLESHOOTING CHART:
See appropriate section in manual unless directed to Sears service center
PROBLEM
CAUSE
CORRECTION
Will not start
1. Out of fuel.

. Engine not “CHOKED"
properly.
3. Engine flooded.
4. Bad spark piug.
5. Dirty air filter.

. Dirty fuel filter.
7 Water in fuel.

. Loose or damaged wiring.
9. Carburetor out of adjustment
10. Engine valves out of
adjustment.
1. Fill fuel tank.

Wait several minutes
before attempting to start.
Replace spark plug.
Clean/replace air filter.
Replace fuel filter.
Drain fuel tank and
carburetor, refill tank with
fresh gasoline and replace
fuel filter.

10. Contact a Sears or other
qualified service center.
Hard to start
1. Dirty air fitter.

. Bad spark plug.
3. Weak or dead battery.
4. Dirty fuel filter.
5. Stale or dirty fuel.

. Loose or damaged wiring.
7. Carburetor out of adjustment

. Engine valves out of
adjustment.
1. Clean/replace air filter.
2. Replace spark plug.
3. Recharge or replace
battery.
4. Replace fuel filter.
5. Drain fuel tank and refill
with fresh gasoline.

turn over
1. Clutch/brake pedal not
depressed.

. Attachment clutch is
engaged.

7. Faulty ignition switch.

. Faulty solenoid or starter.
9. Faulty operator presence
switch(es).
1. Depress clutch/brake
pedal.
2. Disengage attachment
clutch.
3. Recharge or replace
battery.
4. Replace fuse.
5. Clean batteiy terminals.

. Check all wiring.
7. Check/replace ignition
switch.

. Check/replace solenoid or
starter.
9. Contact a Sears or other
qualified service center.
Engine clicks but
will not start

. Weak or dead battery.
