Overview:
1.
Determine whether you need additional help in this Setup process.
2.
Connect to your network router, determine an available IP address for the Baseline Ethernet
modem, and configure the router to forward a chosen Port to the Baseline Ethernet modem.
3.
Determine settings required to connect an Ethernet modem to your network.
4.
Configure the Baseline Ethernet modem with the chosen IP address and the network settings.
5.
Confirm settings and changes made in Steps 2-4 work correctly.
6.
Configure PCs using BaseManager to access your BaseStation through the newly configured
Ethernet modem.
“What is all of this for?”
– The Ethernet Modem for BaseManager takes advantage of the same
networking technology used by PCs and the internet to transfer information between your
BaseStation and BaseManager. Due to its flexibility and security features, networking
technology is complex and setting up an Ethernet connection requires many steps. Please use
the accompanying Ethernet Modem Settings Sheet throughout this guide.
1.
Determine Needs
a.
Does the install location have a compatible network?
i.
This modem requires access to an existing wired Ethernet network within range
of Category 5 cable specifications (90 meters).
b.
Do you know how to configure your network router and/or Ethernet access point?
i.
If you are knowledgeable in network router configuration, continue with this
guide.
ii.
If you are uncertain, it is necessary for you to involve your IT support, or to
contract external IT support in order to continue.
“Why is this important?”
– While this setup guide contains the necessary instructions,
each network router has its own way of displaying network settings, making it
difficult for someone unfamiliar with the terminology to configure.
c.
Do you need external access to the BaseStation from anywhere via the internet?
i.
If access within your Local Area Network (LAN) sufficient, no external static IP
address or ISP contract is required.
ii.
If external access to the BaseStation from the internet is required, you will need
an external static IP address.
1.
Contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) to determine whether you
have a static IP address, and if not, whether your service is capable of
providing you with one.
2.
If you do not have an ISP, you will need to contract service from one in
order to provide this external access.
3.
Write the external static IP address (Field #1) on the Ethernet Modem
Settings Sheet.
