TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE

If you have followed the instructions contained in this manual and have difficulty in operating
your VCR, locate the SYMPTOM in the left column below. Check the corresponding
POSSIBLE CAUSE and CORRECTIVE ACTION columns to remedy the problem.

SYMPTOM

POSSIBLE CAUSE CORRECTIVE ACTION

No power

• Power cord is not
connected.
• The VCR power is
turned off.

• Connect power cord to

AC outlet.
• Press POWER button
to turn on the VCR.

Timer recording
is not possible.

• The timer recording
is set incorrectly.
• The VCR power is
turned on.
• VCR clock is not set
correctly.

• Set the timer recording

correctly.
• Press Power button to
turn off the VCR.
• Set VCR clock
correctly.

Recording mode
cannot be
engaged.

• The erase
prevention tab on
cassette is missing.

• Place a plastic tape
over the hole.

No picture or
poor picture on
playback.

• The TV and/or VCR
is in the TV mode.



• The TV fine tuning
is not set correctly.

• Set your TV to the
VCR mode and/or press
VCR/TV button on the
remote control so that
the "VCR" indicator
appears on the display.
• Fine tune your TV.

Noise in picture
on playback.

• Video heads are
dirty.

• Head cleaning is
necessary,consult the
nearest Hitachi
Authorized Service
Center.

Playback picture
is partially noisy.

• The tracking control
is not set correctly.

• Adjust tracking control
for a better picture using
CHANNEL

On-the-air TV
programs cannot
be seen.

• Connections are
not correctly made.

• The TV and/or VCR
