, but this German-born theoretical physicist

made unparalleled contributions to modern scientifi c thought. In the fi eld of physics, he introduced his special theory

and general theory of relativity and, in 1921, his work on the photoelectric effect won him the Nobel Prize in Physics.

The microscope has been around for nearly 400 years and its invention is credited to 3 eyeglass makers; Hans

Lippershey (who also developed the fi rst real telescope), Hans Janssen and his son Zacharias. The name microscope

was coined by Giovanni Faber, who gave that name to Galileoʼs compound microscope in the 17th century. Galileo

had himself called his microscope “occhiolind” or “little eye.”

The most common type of microscope is the optical microscope which uses lenses to magnify tiny objects, making

them large enough for the human eye to see. Your Einstein Microscope set is an optical microscope. and will allow

you to journey into the microscopic world.
