Supply to the display should be made by means of a suitable multicore cable which should be fed
direct through the grommet on the right-hand side of the unit. The four screws in the front
cover enable it to be removed and rested on top of the case whilst the connections are made to
the terminal block having reference to Fig 1 for correct wiring sequence. When the CEL-211
lighting unit is used the numbered wires correspond to the contact numbers. When viewed from
the front with the terminal strip on the right-hand side, the top contact is numbered 1 whilst
the bottom is numbered 12. Units leave our factory wired for 240V operation; however, other
settings are possible and details of the necessary connections are given in Fig 2. The supply
should be connected via the mains cable provided and for convenience it is suggested that it is
wired back into the CEL-206 terminal strip using the following locations.
No 4 Line
No 7 Neutral No 5 Earth
Having completed the connections the front cover should be replaced and it is good practice to
ensure that the cables are correctly secured by mans of cable clips, etc, in order that they
cannot be removed.

The SET FULL SCALE control may now be adjusted by means of a suitable screwdriver, having first
released the locking ring, such that is coincides with the setting of the threshold control in
the CEL-206. This can be done visually bearing in mind that maximum indication relates to full
scale deflection on the CEL-206 and each scale graduation of the control is approximately 5dB.
The top threshold can therefore be set anywhere in the top 35dB of the CEL-206 range. A more
accurate method is to arrange a noise level, from a calibrator or other suitable source, that
causes the CEL-206 to just trip and then adjust the SET FULL SCALE control of the CEL-208 so
that the top threshold is just exceeded. Each successive lamp will then represent 1/10th of the
CEL-206 dynamic range below its threshold. For example, as the CEL-206 covers the range 60-
110dB if the trip level is set at 110dB then each step on the CEL-208 will represent 5dB. If,
however, the trip level is set to 90dB the usable dynamic, range below this level is now
reduced to 30dB and each increment on the CEL-208 will represent 3dB. Dot or bar display may be
selected as required.
