ChECk BELT TENSION
Belt tension may decrease over time. It must be adjusted within the
first half hour of operation, and checked after every two hours of
operation. Proper adjustment will assure long belt life. Too much or
too little belt tension will cause premature belt failure. To check and
adjust the forward belt tension:
1. Turn off engine. Engine must be cool.
2. Remove spark plug wire from spark plug and secure.
3. With drive safety control lever in the neutral position, measure
length of spring when in its relaxed state.
4. Pull down on drive safety control lever and measure length of
spring when compressed. Ideal length would be 1/4” shorter.

Note: A video with instructions on how to change your 3300 rototiller
belt can be found on our website, www.getearthquake.com. Before
you start, turn off the engine.
1) Drain all oil and gas from the unit, as the rototiller will be tipped
completely upside down during part of the procedure.
2) Remove the upper handle bars and depth regulator.
3) With the wheels in the transport position, stand the tiller up on the
handle bar end so it is resting on the wheels and the lower handle
bar assembly.
4) Remove the tines, noting which side the tines came from.
5) With the tines removed, tip the unit completely upside down so it
is resting on the top of the engine.
Note: Before tipping the unit, it may be helpful to put your
3300 rototiller up on a raised platform or place it on a piece of
material (such as cardboard) as to not scratch or damage the
engine when it is tipped.
6) Remove the wheel assembly (both the wheel mount and adjustment
block).
7) Remove the front and rear belt guards by unscrewing the bolts that
attach them to the unit. Note that the two center bolts where the
guards overlap are longer.
8) Remove the bolts from the tail frame mount assembly. These bolts
are long bolts that go through the transmission of the unit.
9) Remove the bolts that secure the front bumper guard, but do not
completely remove the bumper guard.
10) Slowly lift and tilt the bumper assembly up while holding the tail
mount in place. It should be tilted just enough to clear the tension
of the pulleys. As you are lifting the assembly, slowly slide the belt

TOO MUCh OR TOO LITTLE TENSION WILL CAUSE
PREMATURE BELT FAILURE.

off of the pulley located under the transmission and then
remove it from the engine pulley.
11) Replace the belt by inserting your new belt over the
transmission and engine pulleys as you tilt the bumper
assembly/transmission back down. Ensure that the belt
guide is not twisted or bent.
12) Reassemble the unit. Insert the bumper assembly and
transmission/tail mount bolts, but be sure to have all bolts
inserted before securing them in place. Attach the wheel
assembly by moving the wheel position lever and inserting
the carriage mount on the bottom then the wheel assembly
on top. Reinstall the front and rear belt guards, ensuring
all bolts are in place before securing. Remember the two
longer bolts should be inserted in the center where the
guards overlap. Reinstall the depth regulator. Tip the unit
back on the handle bar assembly so it is resting on the
assembly and the wheels. Add the tines, being careful
to install the tines with the sharp edges facing downward
and toward the front of the machine so they would hit the
ground before the duller edges. Make sure the wheels are
now in the fully raised position toward the transmission
and flip the unit completely right-side up. Reinstall the
handle bars. Refill the unit with gas and oil and start
the unit. Let it run for a couple of minutes to make sure
everything is in order before using the rototiller.
