4. Place the chute deflector assembly in posi
tion on the deck, with the weld bolts on the
adapter plate through the holes in the deck.
5. Start hex nuts (E) and lock washers (D) on
weld bolts on adapter plate.
6. Lift the chute up and hold in place with one
hand. Tighten the hex nuts securely. See
— figure 4.
7. Check ALL nuts and bolts for correct
tightness.

NOTE
For shipping purposes your mower
is set with the wheels in a low cut
ting height position. For best
results, raise the cutting position
until it is determined which height
is best for your lawn. See cutting
height adjustment.
BEFORE STARTING
Service the engine with gasoline and oil as
described in the separate engine manual packed
with your unit. Follow instructions carefully.
START ENGINE
1. Move throttle control lever on engine to
“START” or “CHOKE” position.
2. Crank engine, by pulling starter handle with a
quick firm pull. Do not pull out so farthat rope
stops with a jerk as this will cause rope
failure. Do not allow rope and handle to snap
back into place.
3. After two or three full .firm pulls on starter, or
as soon as engine fires, move throttle control
to desired engine speed.
Operate a new engine at intermediate speeds and
light load for the first few hours as you would a
new automotive engine.
TO STOP ENGINE
1. To stop engine, move throttle control lever to
“STOP” position.
2. Disconnect spark plug wire from spark plug to
prevent accidental starting while equipment
is unattended.
IMPORTANT
If you strike a foreign object, stop
the engine. Remove wire from spark
plug. Thoroughly inspect the mower
for any damage, and repair the
damage
before
restarting
and
operating the mower.
