Ethernet Termination Service Unit (ETSU)

The N525 ETSU permits Ethernet traffic to be used over

fiber optic cable to extend its distance and enhance its

security. It creates a demarcation point between the Service

Provider offering enhanced Ethernet services and the

Enterprise CPE location receiving it. The ability to offer

enhanced Ethernet services is gaining a great deal of

popularity with Service Providers, however no Ethernet

specific demarcation point existed until now. The N525

is a very cost effective Integrated Access Device for

Ethernet, Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet deployed at

the customer premise or local Telco Central Office providing

a managed demarcation point between the Service

Provider’s network and the End User’s network.

The N525 ETSU offers a variety of popular user interfaces

for increased flexibility. The interfaces are field replaceable

and hot swappable for ease of use providing a low MTTR.

Available user interfaces include auto sensing and software

configurable Tri-Speed 10/100/1000Base-Tx, 10 Mbps,

100 Mbps and Gigabit optical, CWDM ready and Single

Fiber BIDI interfaces.

The N525 ETSU provides powerful local and remote

management features to help eliminate costly field visits.

In-band SNMP and SideBand management make the far-

end equipment appear local and provide end-to-end

management, monitoring and control. Local management

can also be accomplished through the provided Craft Port

or 10BaseT Ethernet port. SNMPv1, SNMPv2c, SNMPv3,

RMON, Telnet, PPP and SLIP are standard. The

CanogaView Smart Element Manager provides an even

higher level of control and can integrate under umbrella

management systems like HP OpenView.

The N525’s standards based design and IEEE compliance

allows interoperability with other IEEE compliant devices.

The N525 was also designed to be used with the Canoga

Perkins L351, L357, L312, L322 and L332 Media

Converters.
