Viewfinder Displays When Using the AE-1
and AE-1 PROGRAM Cameras
As soon as the flash is charged the viewfinder
shows the f/stop selected on the 199A. In case
of using the AE-1 PROGRAM, the f/stop
display differs by about a half f/stop or less
when the film speed is set to intermediate
settings, e.g. between ASA 100 and ASA 50,
on the 199A. This is because the f/stop dis­
play in the AE-1 PROGRAM is rounded to
whole f/stops. Proper exposures are not
affected. Using either the AE-1 or AE-1
PROGRAM, when the f/stop selected on the
199A is larger than the maximum opening of
your lens, the viewfinder information gives
underexposure warning. On the contrary,
overexposure warning is given when the f/stop
selected on the 199A is smaller than the mini­
mum f/stop the lens has. In both cases, change
the f/stop setting on the 199A. Such indica­
tion method is the same for both automatic
setting or manual setting of the f/stop, aper­
ture ring removed from ‘A’. In the latter case
the M lamp comes on besides the warning.
When the automatic flash photography is
discontinued by setting the selector at the
back of the 199 A to M, the only information
in the viewfinder will be M to indicate com­
plete cancellation of auto flash mode. How­
ever, for the AE-1 PROGRAM, a “blitz” mark
E appears to indicate completion of charge.
Viewfinder Display When Using the New F-1
Camera
As soon as the flash is charged, the meter
needle position shows the f/stop selected on
the 199A when the camera is in either manual
or shutter-priority mode with the Eye-Level
Finder FN or AE Finder FN attached. When
the camera is in the aperture-priority mode
with the AE Finder FN attached, f/stop in-
