TROUBLESHOOTING CHART
PROBLEM
Engine clicks but
will not start
Loss of power
CAUSE
Weak or dead battery.
Corroded battery terminals.
Loose or damaged wiring.
Faulty solenoid or starter.
Cutting too much grass/too
fast.
Throttle in “CHOKE”
position.
Build-up of grass, leaves
and trash under mower.
Dirty air filter.
Low oil level/dirty oil.
Faulty spark plug.
Dirty fuel filter.
Stale or dirty fuel.
Water in fuel.
Spark plug wire loose.
Dirty engine air screen/fins.
Dirty/clogged muffler.
Loose or damaged wiring.
Carburetor out of
adjustment.
Engine valves out of
adjustment.
CORRECTION
Recharge or replace battery.
Clean batteiy terminals.
Check all wiring.
Check/replace solenoid or
starter.
Set in “Higher Cut” position/
reduce speed.
Adjust throttle control.
Clean underside of mower
housing.
Clean/replace air filter.
Check oil level/change oil.
Clean and regap or change
spark plug.
Replace fuel filter.
Drain fuel tank and refill with
fresh gasoline.
Drain fuel tank and carbure
tor, refill tank with fresh
gasoline and replace fuel
filter.
Connect and tighten spark
plug wire.
Clean engine air screen/fins,
Clean/replace muffler.
Check all wiring.
See To Adjust Carburetor" in
Service Adjustments section.
Contact an authorized
service center/department.
Excessive
vibration
• Worn, bent or loose blade.
• Bent blade mandrel.
• Loose/damaged part(s).
Replace blade.
Tighten blade bolt.
Replace blade mandrel.
Tighten loose part{s).
Replace damaged parts.
Engine continues
to run
when operator
leaves seat
with attachment
clutch engaged
Faulty operator-safety
presence control system.
Check wiring, switches and
connections. If not
corrected, contact an autho
rized service center/
department.
