Applying Thermal Grease (If Required)
Thermal grease acts as a thermal conductor and fills the gaps between the heat sink and the processor.
If you do not receive a heat sink with pre-applied thermal grease with your processor kit, perform
the following procedure to apply thermal grease. See Figure 2.
CAUTION:
Avoid skin contact with the thermal grease. Do not ingest the grease.
NOTICE:
To avoid damaging components, keep the thermal grease away from electrical traces, pins, and leads.
NOTE:
See "Installing System Components" in your Hardware Owner’s Manual for instructions on removing
and installing heat sinks and processors.
NOTE:
Ensure that you take all necessary precautions to prevent the CPU socket cover from popping off
the processor.
1 Remove the heat sink and the processor.
2 Using a clean, lint-free cloth, remove the existing thermal grease from the heat sink that you removed.
